Actor/Interpreter
Contract (8-12 week)
RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Deliver Evergreen Theatre produced educational musical shows in Alberta schools.
  • Work closely with director and Evergreen team.
  • Attend all rehearsals and performances; come prepared.
  • Set up and take down of set and other show related materials.
  • Maintain all Evergreen property while on tour.
  • Act as a representative of Evergreen Theatre at all times.


This contract requires a valid driver’s license, a clean driving record as well as a valid criminal records check.  Evergreen pays a weekly rate (starting at $625) for rehearsals and performances as well as per diems for performances out of Calgary; compensation will be commensurate with experience.  

Evergreen Theatre holds general auditions each year in June. Please check our website for details in 2009.


Residency Artist/Summer Program Artist
Contract (1 week)
RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Lead up to four classes in a week (teaching/directing/leadership duties to be carried out in conjunction with methods outlines in manual provided).
  • Assist classes in the creation of their part of a show including: scripting, directing, music, singing, costuming and prop development; provide scripts and choreography to leader by the final day
  • Perform in the show as needed.
  • Assist in set up and strike of technical equipment, set and props.
  • Act as a professional and represent Evergreen Theatre in an appropriate manner at all times.
  • Support schools in their particular needs as much as possible.


Director
Contract  (2 week)
RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • The Director’s primary responsibility is to oversee and orchestrate the mounting of a production by unifying various endeavors and aspects of production. Proposes an interpretation of the script to the EGT team, which will serve as a guideline throughout the entire creative process. Assists choosing the actors and directs their interpretation.
    Beyond giving indications about voice, eye contact and blocking, the director’s role is to feed the actor’s imagination.  
  • To ensure that the production presents a coherent artistic whole, makes choices and highlights some areas of concern for possible re-direction. The Director’s function is to ensure the quality and completeness of a theatrical product.
  • The Director works collectively with the key EGT staff and other staff, coordinating members responsible for research, stagecraft, costume design, props and set design and sound design.
  • The Director is the primary person organizing the collaborative process of the artistic concept and interpretation of the text, while working toward the educational mandate of EGT as outlined in the EGT Artistic Integrity statement. 
  • May also work with the playwright on works in progress; dramaturge work including discussing ideological and artistic questions raised by the project.

Costume Designer/Builders
Contract (per job/show)
RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Study scripts.
  • Discuss ideas with the production manager, director, and make-up, set designers.
  • Create costume ideas to fit the production’s design concept and budget
  • Research suitable costume styles, fabrics and designs.
  • Sketch costume designs.
  • Fitting, altering and adapting costumes during rehearsals.
  • Cleaning ironing and mending.
  • Making sure that wardrobe items are available at the right time in the production schedule.

We are currently looking for designers to submit portfolios and bids for upcoming shows.

Board Member
Volunteer Position (minimum term 2 seasons)
RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Attend Board meetings (bi-monthly) and AGM; actively participate in the decision-making process.
  • Prepare for each board meeting by carefully studying the agenda and supporting materials.
  • Advise the president or executive director when attendance at a Board meeting or activity is not possible.
  • Clarify and sustain Evergreen’s vision, mission, and values.
  • Participate actively in the deliberations of issues relevant to Evergreen Theatre.
  • Represent Evergreen Theatre by identification as a Board member and act as an ambassador
  • Actively recruit new members.
  • Attend all social events and volunteer at Casino and other fundraising events.
