What we do:
Evergreen Theatre brings science to LIFE!
Using inquiry-based learning, our science theatre specialists challenge students to discover meaning and relevance in curriculum-linked topics. These topics are pertinent to natural, scientific and environmental issues, facilitating the development of both critical and creative thinking as well as individual problem solving skills. We raise environmental and social awareness and empower youth to take part in making positive choices in their lives.
Why we do it:
We offer innovative, exciting alternatives to teaching science curriculum by providing educators with tools, unique to conventional teaching practices. Evergreen provides students an outlet for creative development, encouraging artistic thought and self-expression in a safe and fun environment with opportunities for both individual development and school camaraderie. Nurturing arts and culture, we provide a vital theatre experience introducing basic aspects of theatre including acting, singing, movement, and script writing.
Evergreen Theatre creates opportunities for every school to give back on both a community and global level!
Where we place the value:
It's simple: it’s the process that matters. It's what we learn along the way and how that information influences the choices we make and therefore, who we are to become that really makes the process effective.
We strive to inspire young people to think about the world they live in, and to see how every living creature is connected to us, and ultimately affected by even the smallest decision. Traditionally, students study science through a series of books, labs and tests. Evergreen Theatre introduces another option, or a different angle. Using the arts as a medium, we offer students an exciting way to truly connect with their science. To become the very things they are studying, and to witness the environment’s circumstances first hand by linking true emotion to each situation. Every student has a say in their piece of the residency's story and is encouraged to express what is most important to them. Our artists work closely with each class, guiding them through this process to create a memorable experience and to build a foundation for a life long investment in, and commitment to the environment. Every single person is significant and has the power to change and to make a difference.
If the process is what matters… why do we bother with a show?
As someone once said, it’s the journey and not the destination that matters. Though we encourage schools to present their works to family and friends at the end of the week, the show is ultimately not the goal. It would be more precise to call it a celebration; the culmination of a week’s worth of hard work, creative ingenuity, and teamwork. The show is a demonstration of your school’s accomplishments and it's an opportunity to make a difference as we pass on all that we have learned to family and friends.
